Shwmae to all our members, welcome to the first newsletter of 2026!
It is my pleasure to inform you that we have plenty of exciting events and excursions planned for this year, starting with our St David’s Day celebration on 28th Feb! We will be welcoming local Harpist Kira Gunn who will be playing her Celtic harp, an event not to be missed!
We will also be launching our new website in the near future so keep your eyes peeled for its launch!
I look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming events for a fun filled year of connection and all things Welsh!

Picnic at the Vietnam Memorial, Kings Park, Sunday 16 November.The Society held a picnic at the Vietnam Memorial in Kings Park on 16 November. Unfortunately, numbers were down on last year, but those that attended had a lovely afternoon. | Christmas Lunch 6 December 2025.Our Christmas Lunch was held at Mildenhall. The event was catered by Julie’s Kitchen who provided an excellent lunch. The Committee created a festive spirit in the Hall, and the event was very successful. There was a raffle for three hampers and a very competitive secret auction. |

70th Anniversary of the Clontarf Bus Crash Tragedy
On 15 December a memorial service was held at the Old Bridge School Serpentine which was attended by our Patron Bob Kucera and other members of the Society. On the 50th Anniversary, Bob Kucera, then Member for Yokine made a statement to Parliament acknowledging a selfless lifelong act of Australian mateship that celebrated the short life of Michael Bowman, a young Welsh migrant who was tragically killed 50 years before on the opposite side of the world from his green Welsh Valleys.
Until I attended the service, I was unaware of the tragedy and subsequent events. I have the brochure and would be happy to share a copy with anyone interested.
Restoration of Llwyn Celyn a 15th Century Hall house in the Black Mountains.
The Landmark Trust undertook a two year restoration of Llwyn Celyn, a 15th century hall house in the Black Mounting saving it from collapse. Completed in 2018 the project utilized traditional methods to repair the timber frame and stone roof. The renovation won praise for its sensitive, expert approach to one of Wales’ most significant medieval buildings. The restoration can be viewed on Youtube.
